UV mapping

Recently i have learnt UV mapping in maya, its a little bit complicated at first but i was able to get used to it, i managed to UV map the whole of my tower, though some parts may need remapping to make it easier to texture. i am happy with the mapping so far!

here are 3 UV templates i have made the highlighted parts on the tower on the left side of the screen show you which parts are on that particular UV template. i can save the templates as image files, this makes drawing the textures a whole lot easier!

this template is a bit messy and could use some rearranging..

after i did all the UV mapping i decided to remake the railing on the balcony, it did not have enough detail for my liking so i remade it, here is the new railing:

i still need to UV map the new railing but it shouldn't be too difficult!

progressing

i have made a few improvements on my tower recently, i fixed the smooth shading on the roof and have remade the earth base to make it look better

contiguing with my tower, i crated orthographics to try and improve my models accuracy to the design, here are the orthographics there are 3 different angles for the bridge othrographic and 2 for the tower orthographic itself. in photoshop i lined up the orthographics so they were the same size and dead centre of the image.

using these orthographics in maya, i realised the proportians were slightly off they made my tower and bridge look slightly stretched or squished

i decided to keep the original model (before the orthographics) and improve on that!

new project

We are on our 4th project now and for this project we have to design and create a wizards tower in maya the 3D modelling program. we had to research architecture, towers mostly. and wizards towers to come up with a design of our own tower.

i gathered a bunch of images from google and created a mood board of wizards towers to inspire my design, here is the wizards tower mood:

these were the towers i found most interesting and used them to help me create my tower design, i did a doodle of a tower a small one just to put a few elements of wizards towers together creating a new tower entirely:

i didnt put too much detail into the sketch, and when id finished it i didnt really like it. i scrapped it, looked at the mood board again and put my faveourite parts of my favorite towers together to create:

this is my final design, it started out as a bit of a doodle to put tower parts together but i liked the design in the end and decided to keep it. so i expanded on the idea and created a birds eye view. a few zoomed views adding detail to certain parts and labeled some parts also.

after i created this design i doodled the telescope and the table with the parchment and the ink and quill on it, i drew them to get a better idea of how to make them in maya

after i created the designs, i started to make the design in Maya and have made some good progress so far, iv managed to get a few detailed pieces like the telescope and the desk on the balcony, iv also made the old tower entirely out of "bricks"

this is all i have done for now
